Packaging waste and materials have very much come to the forefront of the consumer and industry agenda. Government targets and guidelines have recently been published in order to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. In line with this all the major retailers have set their own targets in terms of percentage reduction they wish to achieve over the coming years. We are working very closely with the retailers to help them achieve their targets and also meet targets set by ourselves to reduce our environmental impact.

Packaging Reduction Project

This project was launched in 2007 in order to progress and monitor packaging reductions across all of our product lines. Regular extensive trials are implemented to determine what reductions can be made without affecting the product quality and shelf life. There are a number of ways we have and plan to achieve reductions:

1.  Reduction of microns – thinner film and bags
2.  Reduction of pack dimensions – smaller bags where achievable
3.  Innovations in packaging – the introduction of alternative options with less weight

Environmentally Responsible Packaging

We work very closely with the largest film and bag suppliers in the UK to ensure we are at the forefront of packaging developments. Regular trials are undertaken to assess new materials and these are implemented where appropriate. These include compostable and biodegradable options. We also strive to use recyclable packaging where possible.
